The Story
of William Penn &
The World's Largest JerseyThe Flyers
Jersey placed on the statue of William Penn is the end result of a month-long sales
promotion to create foot traffic for an Action Sports America retail client.
To celebrate the Flyers re-entry into the
playoffs, Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell asked Modell's Sporting Goods to provide a
giant-size Flyers jersey to fit the Penn statue -- 565-feet above the street atop City
Hall. The World's Largest Flyers Jersey was placed on the statue for the Stanley Cup
Finals.
Incredible publicity included local &
national TV, USA Today front page exposure, and local & wire service print coverage.
Prior to the Finals, the Jerseys appeared
throughout the city at high traffic areas, malls & Modell's stores. At these
appearances, fans signed the Jerseys -- over 76,000 signatures wished the team well. In
addition, the Jersey promotion also included:
> "Spot The Jersey" radio
contest
> Daily appearances on Fox TV Morning Show
> Sign-ups for Modell's MVP Program |
